CENSORSHIP

Mary Rose and Beverley discuss the power of the media to hide information from the general public and to promote particular viewpoints by having the same talking points broadcast repeatedly through all media channels.  This is made possible because almost all of the world's media outlets are owned by only six families.

The discussion examines the consequence that diversity in peoples' beliefs, which arises because everyone operates from different world views depending on their own personal experience, has on society.  In response to Mary Rose's question on how the dichotomy of viewpoints can be reconciled, Beverley suggests that as individuals, we tend to censor others and this is where we should start to make changes.   Rather than judging those who do not think as we do Beverley suggests that  it would be far better if we could allow people to express their viewpoints without fear of judgement.  Beverley expresses the opinion that we are in a war of ideologies.  One the hand hand we have people who operate out of total self interest. They are in conflict with the other group which is made up of those who are seeking to  live in a way that provides benefit for all.

Total self interest with little or no moral compass would appear to explain some of the extraordinary events of World War 2 when major corporations based in England and America financed Hitler's regime by doing such things as building the railway line that supplied victims to the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp and by allowing Germany to build Ford motor vehicles under licence.  American-owned corporations were willing beneficiaries of the profits that came from supplying Hitler's Germany with products that were essential for Hitler's war machine.  This was the war machine that caused great loss of life for  American, Australian  and English soldiers and airmen who were fighting Hitler's armies.    The companies that did this, still operate and are still using the obscene profits they made during wartime to finance their operations in today's world.
